Ancient silver coins were found underground in Ishwarganj!

Ishwarganj Correspondent: An ancient silver coin inlaid with bones has been found underground in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh. While digging a tubewell in front of Sabuj Ali's house in Kakanhati village of Ishwarganj municipality on Wednesday afternoon, such a silver coin was found. A team of Ishwarganj Thana police came to the spot after receiving the information. Later they counted the coins and seized 77 coins and took them to the police station. The recovered ancient coins are engraved with Urdu and Arabic languages.

Tubewell installation engineer Mujibur Rahman said, at ten in the morning, we came to install the tubewell in front of Sabuj Mia's house. After completing the ancillary work of tubewell installation, we started digging the soil and installing the pipe at around 12 noon. At one stage of digging one to one and a half feet of soil, I found a small clay pot. The pot was broken and many coins of earlier days were found. Then I give some coins to the house owner and I don't have a few coins. A few other children also took a few coins. At some point when the news spread, local people came and took them from us.

Sabuj Mia, the owner of the house, said, I earn my living by driving autorickshaws. The tubewell workers in my house get those coins in an earthen pot. I was not at home, when I came, many people and police came to the house. The coins were taken to the police station.

Former local councilor Abul Kashem Talukder said, I put all the coins together after hearing the news. These are definitely ancient silver coins. There is no doubt about it. Later, when the police and administration people came, I handed over the coins to them.

In this regard, Ishwarganj police station officer-in-charge Muhammad Majedur Rahman said that the police seized the coins from the spot after receiving the information. These are believed to be ancient silver coins. A total of 77 silver coins and some parts of broken earthen pots were seized and brought to the police station. Further legal action will be taken in this regard.
